Joomla Project Leadership

Today we are proud to announce an important shift in the organisation and governance of the Joomla Project. This change is focused on making it easier to fulfill our mission, achieve our vision and remain true to our values.

Firstly, we are simplifying the current Working Group structure. Secondly, we are changing the leadership and management of the project in a way that provides a more open and flexible structure. Thirdly, we are shifting the governance of the project to a model that reflects the increased maturity of the organisation and provides a solid foundation for sustainable growth.

Web CMS is Booming with Double Digit Growth

While the majority of the country’s companies are struggling to keep their doors cracked open or regretfully shutting them all together, a handful of Web Content Management vendors are riding a wave of significant growth.

Among the lucky few is Ingeniux, a WCM vendor that recently reported its biggest first quarter in the company’s history, representing a 65 percent growth in revenues compared to Q1, 2008.

The question, of course, is why? What is WCM doing right? Jim Edmunds, CEO of Ingeniux puts it like this: “Companies and organizations are investing in the Web to gain efficiencies and cost savings."

DrupalCon DC By the Numbers: Community, Profit, and Sustainability

The number crunching from DrupalCon DC is done, and we wanted to share the results.

  • 1,422 people came to DrupalCon DC.
  • 130 people presented 109 sessions.
  • That doesn’t include the people who led the 100 birds of a feather sessions that we know about (and we know we don’t know about all of the ones that took place).
  • 9 people helped record the 109 sessions, and they’re all online now.
  • 75+ people volunteered their early mornings, weekends, and conference time to register people at DrupalCon, stuff those green bags we all got, monitor IRC and twitter to make sure questions were answered and issues were dealt with, point people to where they wanted to go, and generally make sure DrupalCon DC rocked. Thank you : )
  • 55 shops, companies, and organizations sponsored DrupalCon.
  • 91 individuals sponsored DrupalCon as well.
  • 100s of blog posts were written and 10,000s (and maybe more) of messages were tweeted that helped us all learn from each other and let people follow along from home.

Joomla 1.5 Coming of Age and Looking Forward

Today marks the one-year anniversary of the release of Joomla 1.5, the first major release of the popular content management system.
In January 2008, the first stable release was downloaded almost 200,000 times. Since then, the total number has exploded to over 8 million downloads. Joomla is seeing the highest rate of adoption ever.

That same month, the Joomla Extensions Directory contained 2,600 extensions written for Joomla 1.0.x, a small percentage of which worked with Joomla 1.5. Today, that number is approaching 5,000 and most are Joomla 1.5 native. The JED is a a powerful barometer of the commitment of the community to the Joomla Project and platform.
And that community continues to grow exponentially. The Joomla Discussion Forums contain over 1.5 million posts from almost 250,000 users. The spirit of open source, collaboration, and users helping users has never been stronger.

DrupalCon in DC

DrupalCon is the official Drupal unconference that attracts the most talented open source developers and innovative web shops in the world and brings them together to share knowledge, make decisions on the future of Drupal, and get to know each other in person.

It's also the premiere opportunity for Drupal users to learn what they can do with Drupal, find partners for future projects, and meet the people behind the code.

In this agenda you can see what the conference will focus on, and as you can see it's designed for both developers and Drupal users. The first three days of the conference will be about learning, while the last day will be about doing - that's when we'll all work together to push code and documentation forward.

DrupalCon is a volunteer run, nonprofit conference. Thanks to everyone who's helped and to our fantastic sponsors, who are letting us keep ticket prices low by paying for more than half of this event!
